As companies work towards creating more inclusive and accessible workplace environments, itโ€™s vital to ask the right questions and take meaningful actions.

To help with this critical task, Iโ€™ve compiled a list of key questions for your company to consider. These questions cover a range of topics, including commitment and outreach, policies and culture, communication and media, training and benefits, physical accessibility, accommodations and support, employee engagement and inclusion, customer and supplier relations, as well as strategy and accountability.

By exploring these questions, your company can evaluate its current practices, identify areas for improvement, and actively promote disability integration and accessibility.

Important Note: While this list is not exhaustive or arranged in any particular sequence, it provides a useful starting point for ensuring accessibility and disability inclusion. Continuous monitoring, learning, and adaptation are crucial for maintaining an inclusive workplace. As societal changes occur, the needs of disabled individuals and their experiences also evolve, and organizations must be open to learning and adjusting their strategies accordingly. The ultimate aim is to create a work environment that enables everyone to thrive and realize their full potential.

  • Does your company conduct regular accessibility audits to identify and address barriers in the physical environment, digital platforms, and communication materials?
  • Does your company ensure that all company events and meetings are accessible, with options for remote participation, sign language interpreters, or other necessary accommodations?

Accommodations and Support:

  • Does your company provide reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities to ensure equal access to job opportunities, including adjustments to work schedules, assistive technology, or modifications to the physical workspace?
  • Does your company have a clear process for employees to request accommodations, and is it communicated effectively to all staff?
  • Does your company have a mentorship or career development program specifically designed to support the growth and advancement of employees with disabilities?
  • Does your company provide accessibility training for managers and supervisors to equip them with the knowledge and skills to effectively support employees with disabilities?

Employee Engagement and Inclusion:

  • Does your company have an employee resource group or affinity group for individuals with disabilities to provide support, networking opportunities, and advocacy within the organization?
  • Does your company actively seek feedback from employees with disabilities to understand their experiences, challenges, and suggestions for improvement?
  • Does your company provide ongoing disability awareness training for all employees to foster a more inclusive and understanding work environment?

Customer and Supplier Relations:

  • Does your company collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure their products and services are accessible to individuals with disabilities?
